... "Take the $1.6 billion graphics software maker Adobe,
for instance. It started off its India development centres six
years ago. Today, the company develops its globally best-selling
software 'Framemaker' completely out of India, besides other
cutting-edge research. The company has just moved into a $10-million,
370-engineer facility in Noida complete with tennis courts and

"Adobe provided CIP4 with Mac and Windows versions of
FrameMaker 7.0 which CIP4 representatives will use to manage
the ongoing development and publication of the Job Definition
Format (JDF) specification. "The last revision of this document
pushed Microsoft Word to the absolute limit," reported Jim
Harvey, President of Media4theWorld and managing editor of the
JDF specification. "This document is so deeply structured
and intensely cross-referenced with auto-generated contents,
that structural changes to the document were breaking cross-references
and creating hours of cleanup. It became obvious that we needed
to move to a more structured, professional publishing environment."

strategy? FrameMaker 7.0 was released this May. Karl Matthews,
who led Adobe's FrameMaker team, said in an interview with The
Mercury News that the company wants to be part of the enterprise's
"knowledge worker." Matthews' vision is for "human

engineers to use it to write up specifications, and for bureaucrats
to use it to organize tax law." Hmmm. This could take some
convincing." ... . [Article]
